The purpose of this preface is to explain to the reader the inner backgrounds of the PhDs in the Danish context (i.e. architecture schools), which is somewhat different to the Anglo traditions. The preface seeks to address how the PhD started, what are the requirements and conditions of the Danish PhD, the associated research networks, the nature of the research and pedagogical traditions of the school, the target audience of the monograph, the timeline and structure of the monograph, the motivation and the background of the researcher that will inform and colour the position of the research presented in this monograph.
